How To Discover Your Passion

“Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”
– Oprah Winfrey

All successful people are passionate about something. And I passionately believe this to be true.

Steve Jobs was passionate about changing the world. Nelson Mandela was passionate about leadership and fighting for freedom. Even Prince was passionate about animals and gastronomy. (Surprised? Well we certainly were.)

Some people discover their passion right from the start. Take Sung Ha Jung for example, the guitar prodigy who started making YouTube videos at the age of 9.

But for those of you without overbearing Asian parents, finding your passion can be a lifelong journey, riddled with trial and error.

With that in mind, here are 3 ways to help you speed up that discovery process:

Be open to exploration!
Remember the adage – you’ll never know (whether you hate something) if you don’t try. And if you’re lucky, you might even find your OTP, or “one true passion”.

Don’t be afraid to try new things, and see where they take you. For all you know, YouTube fame may just be a video away!

No harm in doing something you might potentially learn to love.

List down things you really like doing.
Once in a while, we come up with advice that’s actually practical and useful. Just to make the discovery process more tangible for you, try creating a list of your favourite things.

Think of things that make you happy, and bring a smile to your face. Like schnitzel with noodles. Everyone loves schnitzel and noodles.

To quote Oprah Winfrey, passion is energy and is what excites you 😊

Imagine a scenario where things do not go your way. Would you give up, or would you just keep chasing pavements. Even if they lead nowhere.
When you’re passionate about something, not even angry YouTube comments can stop you from doing what you do. You’ve got to get up and try, try, try.

On the flipside, getting bored or frustrated may be a hint that regardless of what your overbearing Asian parents say, your passion may not really be corporate law or experimental neuropsychology

Passion allows one to convert “I think I like my job” to “I love my job”. And if you don’t want to read the whole article, try to remember this at least: Do what you love and love what you do. 💪

“I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”
-Albert Einstein
